SONrise Emmaus Community

What a year that 2020 has been! As we look back at how the uncertainty has unfolded, we can be and should be thankful to our Lord. His provision and sovereign reign echo throughout our individual and corporate lives. And, we can look forward with confidence to what 2021 holds because we know that our Lord holds 2021!

It has been a difficult time for many, both inside & outside of our SONrise Emmaus Community. We respectfully and reverently remember those from our Community who have passed on this year. While we can easily say that they are with the Lord, the lasting effects on family members remains. We also affirm and support those families who have been directly affected. As we continue to navigate this season, look for ways to allow others to be the recipient of extended Grace from the SONrise Emmaus Community.

In order to BE Grace, we must KNOW Grace. Let me share a phenomenal quote that I once heard while serving on an Emmaus Team, “Grace is one beggar showing another beggar where to find bread.” Let me encourage each of you to be using this season as a time to deepen your relationship with Jesus. Jesus is the bread of life! His Spirit longs for us! He wants us to be in relationship with Him.

In a recent SONrise Emmaus Community Board Mtg., I shared with the Board a devotional thought based on Numbers 22 - 24. I called it “Lessons from a Man, a Donkey, & an Angel.” The context is one where Israel had conquered the Amorites...they were marching through the land. In vs. 1-7, Balak of Moab, sends messengers to Balaam to solicit Balaam to curse the Israelites. Balaam seeks what God has to say (vs. 8 ). We see in vs. 9-20 that God & Balaam converse/dialog about what Balaam is to do. We read in vs. 22 - 35 a dialog that occurred between Balaam, a DONKEY, & the Angel of the Lord. Lesson: BALAAM IS CONTINUALLY SEEKING THE LORD’s WILL! We see evidence of this in Numbers 22: 8, 35, & 38;... 23: 3, 12, 16 & 26;...24: 12-14, 16…. Balaam continually says what the Lord tells him to say & does what the Lord tells him to do.

And then, from the book of Philemon vs. 4 - 7 we see concepts that remind me of personal outcomes of serving in our SONrise Emmaus Community. These include the following: Thanksgiving, Hearing, Love, Faith, Sharing, Joy, Comfort, and Refreshing.

Jesus, we invite You to fill us up with Your Spirit... to embed in us these concepts as we move forward... We need YOU. What concept(s) do You, Jesus, want to develop in me?... in us?... in this SONrise Emmaus Community? What would YOU have us to know?... to say,... & to do? Maranatha & Amen.

Walk # 80, Table of Timothy

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, and kindle in them the fire of your Love.

Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created and you shall renew the face of the earth.

O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful,

Grant that by the same Holy Spirit, we may be truly wise, and ever enjoy your consolations.

Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
